About the “Food Animators” Program

Through this program people will have training and support to:

  • Increase their knowledge of food security and resources

  • Explore actions and opportunities to address food security in St. John’s

  • Connect with individuals and community groups

  • Build leadership and community development skills

Animators should expect to spend a minimum of 20 hours volunteering between March and May 2022.

Workshops have covered a variety of informational and skills-building topics, including how to write funding proposals, market a program, and read food labels. Skill building will be a blend of in-person and online workshops, to cover information on food security in St. John's and food-related skills, including how to host a great meeting, run a food program, write proposals, and other topics.

Activities and a ‘food action plan’ may include: Prepare and host workshops (virtual/physically distanced) and support the work of individuals, community groups, and organizations involved in community health and food initiatives.

Cost: Thanks to our generous project partners, this program is available at no cost to participants. Animators will receive an honorarium for participating, plus cost of transportation, childcare, or other expenses is reimbursed.
